BERLIN – the Police in central Switzerland say that a plane crashed in a forest, killing a number of people.
The canton of Nidwalden (state) police said the plane went down Saturday morning near the town of Hergiswil, which is 65 miles (105 kilometers) south of Zurich. She said authorities to send a helicopter to extinguish the resulting fire before the rescue workers could get to the scene.
The police said that the aircraft had burned and officials have not yet been able to ascertain the exact number and the identity of the persons who died, or why the plane crashed. An investigation is underway and will the Swiss Accident Investigation Board.
