For a decade, he was a handsome, quirky boy next door on the hit series “Friends.”

But now Matthew Perry has been giving fans have been wondering what has become of the lovely ’90s heartthrob, such as pictures have emerged of the troubled actor’s wandering around Los Angeles looking like a slovenly, slack-jawed hobo.

The alarming new figures show that the 50-year-old staggering out of a restaurant on Sunday in a state of chaos, and draws on a cigarette with a mystery woman.


They immediately ask questions about whether Perry, who has been candid about his decades of substance abuse problems, and had once again fallen off the wagon.

He has a history of stints in rehab in 1997 and again in 2001. He once even said that he was so far removed from the height of his TV career that he did not remember to film more seasons of “Friends.”

“I think the answer is, I don’t think that I’m three years,” he told BBC Radio 2 in 2016. “So, none of this is … Somewhere in between Season 3 and 6 … I was a little bit out of it.”

Growing up In Canada, and the “Whole Nine Yards” star was raised with a competitive streak and a passion for tennis. He rose up the junior rankings to become the Number 2 in Ottawa, ontario until the move to LA to be with his father in 1984, where he was eventually to take action. Just like every other struggling actor in the City of Angels, Perry faced a lot of rejection, and has worked in several unsuccessful TELEVISION shows before landing the life changing role of Chandler Bing on “Friends,” a role he played from 1994 to 2004.

“All of the superficial things about [the fame was true,” he said to the People, and in 2002, the series’ success. “I was naive enough to think that it would have to comply with all aspects of my life.”

Then, three years after the debut, Perry was in a jet ski accident that it was the start of his addiction problems, as he was beginning to be totally dependent on pain killers.

“It wasn’t my intention to have a problem with it,” he said. “But from the beginning, I thought, how I felt, and I wanted to find out more.” As his addiction escalated, I was out of control and it is not healthy,” said Perry, who lost around 20 pounds, and that was incredibly apparent on the NBC sitcom.


“I went back to my original weight,” he later joked.

His first rehab stint was at a facility in Minnesota, where he remained for a period of 28 days, but the sobriety didn’t last. In 2000, the Tower has collapsed, and ended up spending two weeks in the hospital for pancreatitis, which was caused by alcohol abuse, ” he said.

“Unfortunately,” Perry told People: “it still wasn’t enough to get me to stop drinking.”

Perry’s hit rock bottom in 2001, when he was drinking vodka by the quart, and show up to work brutally hungover and not being able to get to work. He finally called his parents in a Dallas hotel room, and asked for help.

“It was very scary. I didn’t want to die,” he said. “You know, I’m grateful to you for how bad it was. It’s only made me more adamant about trying to get better at it.”

He spent two-and-a-half months into the treatment, and we have learned that a happy life is possible without alcohol or drugs.”

The “Fools Rush In” star continued to be sensible of it, however, in 2011, said he has voluntarily checked back into rehab for his sobriety in check.

“I’m making plans to go away for a month to focus on my sobriety and to continue my life in recovery,” he said at the time. “Enjoy it, make fun of me, on top of the World-Wide-Web.”


Just two years later, the Experience has changed a lot in their lives, and when he has turned his Malibu, California home into Perry House, a sober living facility for men that is offered for meditation as well as a 12-step workshop.

“When I die, I want to be ‘Friends’ to be listed behind helping people,” Perry said.

In 2015, the Tower was given the Phoenix Award by the far-reaching non-profit drug and alcohol rehabilitation organization Phoenix House, and joked to The Hollywood Reporter, he is an award-winning alcoholic.”

“I’ve had a lot of ups and downs in my life, and a lot of beautiful decorations,” he told the trade publication of the year, but the best thing about me is that, when a drunkard came up to me and said,” do you want me to help you stop drinking?’ I will say, ” Yes.” I know how to do it.'”

The “Odd Couple” actor finally sold the Malibu home for $10.7 million, with the hope of moving to the Perry House, in Santa Monica, where it would be cheaper to run.

“I am in love with the trade, because I like it; it’s a great way to help alcoholics,” he said.


His plan ultimately did not come to fruition, and he will be permanently closed to the Perry House in 2016, amid rumours that he was struggling in London, he performed in the West End.

Come 2018, Perry has had a health set-back, even though he was not at all about substance abuse is when a statement is made about it. In August of the same year, a rep for Perry as he is confirmed, he underwent surgery to repair a gastrointestinal perforation, and that the actor then tweeted in September that he’d spent three months in the hospital.

One is to stay out of the limelight, Perry is not actually created until the Jennifer Aniston joined Instagram in October 2019, and he appeared in one of her “Friends”, the cast reunion photo.
