Several of the officers were injured in the ‘active and ongoing’ situation.
At least six Philadelphia police officers had been injured, and at least one reportedly grazed in the head, and in an ongoing shootout in the city’s Nicetown neighborhood on Wednesday afternoon has been unfolding for nearly two hours.
The three officers were rushed to Temple University Hospital, officials told Fox 29.
The other three officers were taken to Einstein Hospital, one of them was a shot in the arm. All six of these officers are in stable condition and is being treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
Two other officers, including a police sergeant, was injured in an accident in connection with the services and is to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
High police officials said that two narcotics officers were serving a warrant for a multiple-family residence when a gunman opened fire at the house. The two officers were barricaded in separate rooms, with as many as four suspects, in what may be a drug-related offense. At least one suspect is actively firing, firing from a tower at a lower level in the building, or it may move up and down the stairs while you do it. An officer was barricaded in a bedroom with two of the suspects, while the other is in a bathroom with one other suspect.
Dozens of rounds fired could be heard, even though it is a weapon used by the shooter is as of yet unknown.
A suspect is in custody.
The situation has been described as a hot scene that started around 4:30 pm
The officers called for back-up, frantically saying, “shots fired, shots fired, on the North side of 15th street.”
Video footage from the scene showed a massive police presence in the area, as dozens of responding officers and police cars blocked off the streets around the 15th and Butler streets, crouching behind cars with their guns drawn, in search of a possible shooter, according to reports from WCAU.
One officer appeared to be injured and was taken away in a police car. The Video also showed two other officers, to carry a man, and that she was in the back of a police car, according to reports from the Associated Press.
The police are warning the community to stay indoors as gunshots continue to ring out in the area, in one minute, and the police are searching for an active shooter.
