Petition for images of Britney Spears in place of ‘heroes’ Confederation
Fans of Britney Spears in her home state of Louisiana a petition started to have the old statues to be replaced with that of the 35-year-old singer. It comes to statues of the leaders of the Confederacy, the southern separatist movement, during the American civil war.
The initiators find that the statues – are often men on horses – of the Confederation no heroes represent. They want to a contemporary hero, or in this case heroine, comes from Louisiana’s worship. “Britney has not only her talent already proven, she has also had setbacks to overcome, such as the problems with her mental health,” says the petition.
Spears comes from the small town of Kentwood. In the petition, a number of its charitable projects in her home state listed.
Since the highly-publicized demonstration by neo-nazis in Charlottesville, there is discussion in the U.S. about symbols such as the flag and statues of the pro-slavery Confederacy, which by right-wing extremist groups are honored.
Tuesday morning early had more than 2.400 people, the petition to have the statues replaced drawn.
Spears is not the only one who by fans is seen as a good contemporary replacement for controversial statues. In the U.s. state of Virginia started a petition to have the statue of general Robert E. Lee of the Confederacy, to be replaced by rapper Missy Elliot. That was Tuesday morning already almost thirty thousand signatures collected.
