Meanwhile, Russell T. Vought, Deputy Director of the White House Office of Management and Budget, assured reporters that “I can unequivocally say that tax refunds will go as planned,” even if the shutdown continues.

But the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) is one of the agencies affected by the ongoing shutdown, and many IRS workers are among the nearly 800,000 Federal workers are currently furloughed.

For his part, the Secretary of Homeland Security Kirstjen Nielsen, who reportedly clashed with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., when attempting to brief congressional leaders on the border-security intelligence last week (“I your facts lehne replied,” Pelosi, according to The Wall Street Journal), doubled down, claiming on Monday by the administration, that terrorists in the United States through the southern border.

“We must said cases of terrorists crossing the southern border,” Nielsen had. “The number itself is sensitive and difficult to share, because some of the figures are classified on the basis of the ongoing investigations.
