Pearl Jam and Tupac join Rock & Roll Hall of Fame

Hiphopper Tupac Shakur, grungerockgroep Pearl Jam and folkzangeres Joan Baez have a place acquired in the legendary Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2017.

To be elected and to be included in the famous Hall of Fame-list must be an artist’s first single or album at least 25 years old.

Tupac Shakur released his first album, “2Pacalypse Now”, in november 1991, but it was five years later gunned down in Las Vegas. The hiphopper is still considered one of the best artists in his genre. He came since the beginning of this year are eligible for a place in the Hall of Fame.

Also Pearl Jam was the first candidate to join the list. The group was not reachable for comment, but in may of this year, said guitarist Mike McCready to Rolling Stone that he is the nomination a great honour to have found.

For Joan Baez , the news arrived as a surprise. “I have myself never considered to be a rock & roll artist,” she said in a press release. “But as part of the folkmuziekbeweging that in the 60’s had a major impact on the rockrevolutie, I find it a great honor to now be part of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.”

Other winners for the Hall of Fame include the American rock band Journey, which tens of millions of albums have sold during the past 40 years, as well as the British rockformaties Yes and Electric Light Orchestra. The inhuldigingsceremonie will on 7 april, take place at the Barclays Center in New York.
