Patrick Shanahan follows Mattis on as U.s. secretary of Defense

Patrick Shanahan’s Sunday night by the American president Donald Trump presented as the new minister of Defence. The minister of Defence is the successor of Jim Mattis, who as of 1 January.

Retired general Mattis made this week to his resignation known. He is critical of the decision to all American soldiers to withdraw from Syria and was afraid that Syria was in the hands of Russia and Iran would come.

He is succeeded by Shanahan, who is now deputy Defence minister is under Mattis. Prior to joining the 64-year-old Shanahan for aircraft manufacturer Boeing.

Mattis said until the end of February to continue to be a “smooth transition” to achieve. Sources of the American government told Reuters news agency that Trump “irritated” by the criticism of Mattis on Trump in his letter of resignation and its rejection of the Trump advocated foreign policy.

Trump therefore wants a quick, smooth transfer and would not be in favour of a months-long transfer, said the official.

I am pleased to announce that our very talented Deputy Secretary of Defense, Patrick Shanahan, will assume the title of Acting Secretary of Defense starting January 1, 2019. Patrick has a long list of accomplishments while serving as Deputy, & previously Boeing. He will be great!
