Patient ill with swine flu
Two weeks ago in a patient with severe griepklachten determined that this varkensgriepvirus is caused. The patient is now recovered.
This is reported in the national Institute for public Health and the Environment (RIVM).
The type of flu virus where the handles, Influenza A (H1N1), for years now, in pigs, in which the mild symptoms caused. Earlier was the infection in 1986 and 1993 by a man determined. The patient was recently in a barn with pigs.

The infection with the varkensgriepvirus has no connection with the avian influenza virus (H5N8) that has recently been in water birds was found.

The symptoms of the disease after an infection with an animal influenza virus resemble those of the flu in people. The symptoms are generally mild: fever, sniffles, sore throat, coughing, chest tightness, headache and muscle aches. Especially people who have intensive and prolonged contact with infected animals are at risk to be ill of an animal influenza virus. This applies, for example, pig farmers and their employees.
