COMMERCE, Texas – An east Texas city has prompted a law firm to investigate whether the arrest of Miss Black Texas 2016 after she and officers gave different accounts of the incident.
Carmen Thought says Commerce police arrested her on Saturday after a confrontation with a motorist who is a racist and sexist comments to her. Think identified the driver as Police chief Kerry Crews.
She says officers arrested her as she left a Wal-Mart and told her to apologize to the Crews, which they refused.
The city says in a Thursday statement issued that the Crew was shopping off-duty and responded to the incident, but that was not the driving of the truck. The chief is placed on leave during the investigation.
Ponder’s lawyer says she may have mistakenly identified the director, but she was still falsely arrested.
