Steve McQueen, the Oscar-winning director of 12 Years a Slave, is going to make a documentary about Amsterdam during the Second world War. The Brit himself is living in our capital city.
On the website of the Dutch film fund, is to read that McQueen a realiseringsbijdrage of 800,000 euros for The Occupied City, is a documentary that is based on the book Atlas of an occupied city: Amsterdam 1940-1945. That illustrated work, written by his Dutch wife, Bianca Stigter, in march appear.
Atlas of a busy city shows how the time of the occupation looked like in Amsterdam. On the basis of illustrations to guide Stigter the reader along the places where in the past people in hiding were, or where the headquarters of the NSB was. Stigter also takes the scenario of the documentary for her account.
McQueen began his career as a video artist and now has four feature films to his name. The latest is the crime drama Widows, currently in our cinemas is running. Are slavernijdrama 12 Years a Slave won the 2014 three Oscars, including for best film. When The Occupied City should appear, is not yet known.
