Oregon trooper in the 2nd operation after the recording; still critical

PORTLAND, Ore. – An Oregon State Police soldier injured in a christmas night gunbattle in a suburb of Portland, is in the surgery and remains in critical condition.

Captain Bill Fugate told a news conference Tuesday that the 32-year-old Trooper Nic Cederberg was undergoing the second of what is expected to be many surgeries after the shooting Sunday. Fugate refused to say how many times Cederberg was a shot or to be more precise to describe his injuries, citing his family’s wishes. He said the soldier gave his wife a high-five after his first surgery Monday.

The police initially responded to a report of a shooting in King City, where they found the body of a woman. A 30-year-old suspect, James Tylka, was seen to drive away and the officers pursued him.

The chase ended with a shootout about 20 miles south of Portland. Tylka was killed.
