PASADENA, Calif. – Oliver Hudson said that his inflammatory Instagram post slamming his father Bill Hudson breathed new life into their relationship.

Kate Hudson is the older brother opened up about his long estrangement from his father at the Television Critics Association Winter Press Tour. Hudson, 41, was there to promote his upcoming series “to Cleave Together,” which tackles divorce.

“I think a lot of people survive [the separation],” Hudson said. “…I think that it is a reality, and I think that it is up to the parents to ensure that the children are the highest priority. In my specific situation, it is not pan out that way. Now, things have kind of gotten back to normal a bit with my father… and actually, because of an Instagram post I did, that was a bit crazy, but it actually worked out for us.”

In 2015, Hudson took to Instagram on father’s day to share a photo with sister Kate and his father, Bill, writing, “Fortunately, discontinuation of the day.”

Oliver and Kate are famous close to their mother Goldie Hawn’s longtime partner Kurt Russell.

In his new show, Oliver Hudson plays Martin, a father who is still living with the ex-wife Lena (Jenna Fischer) after their divorce, so that they can co-parent of their children.

“As far as the divorce goes, you know, it’s about how we parent our children,” he said. “I mean, I have enough people in my life that are separate. My sister is separated. Her children are incredible. Her relationship with their father are incredible. So it’s about how you deal with divorce and how to parent.”

Oliver Hudson is married with wife Erinn Bartlett since 2006. They have three children.

“I’m a very hands-on dad,” he revealed. “It is my number one priority in the life of a dad.”

He said that he sacrificed a lot of career opportunities to be a father.

“I cook better than my wife,” he boasted.

Still, he may feel his character on the show, Martin, who is a nice parent.

“For me personally… my wife is just like Jenna’s character on the show. She is about lists and bags, and when we go to the market as 18 bags of stuff… So it was nice to see that in my life and on the show.”

“Cleave Together” will premiere March 27 on ABC after the “Roseanne” revival.
