Ohio student suspended for a stay in the classroom during walkouts

HILLIARD, Ohio Ohio A high school student, says he tried to stay nonpolitical during school walkouts on armed violence and was suspended for a day because he stayed in a classroom, instead of joining the protests, or the alternative, a study hall.

Hilliard senior Jacob Shoemaker says that the school isn’t the place for politics, and he was not the party Wednesday.

The district says that it is responsible for students safety and they can not do without supervision.

Jacob the citation for not following the instructions was shared online by a friend, in which a flood of messages to his father.

Scott Shoemaker says that some people thought that his son was suspended for walking, and angry responses collected, including some who mistook Scott for the client. He says that he also received a few death threats and had to consider switching phone numbers.
