Dr. James Lilja, an ob-gyn, is faced with a medical error costs submitted by John and Stephenie Sargiotto in Alameda County Superior Court. The Sargiottos claim that Lilja has been negligent in the treatment of Stephanie Sargiotto, but further details of their allegations were not immediately available.

According to Law360, the would-be juror was waiting to be called back in the courtroom when he collapsed, hit his head and lost consciousness. Lilja and his nurse-assistant gave the man CPR and shocked him with a defibrillator. The website reported that the unknown man had a pulse when the ambulance took him away.

The Sargiottos’ lawyer moved for a mistrial, arguing that the potential jurors can be influenced by the witness Lilja’s actions. The judge agreed, dismissing the other judges, and set a new trial date of 2 April.

Before entering the medical field, Lilja was a drummer for the Orange County on the basis of Offspring from 1984 to 1987. Lilja, the band played in 1986 debut single, “I’ll Be Waiting’, but left before the band achieved mainstream success in the 1990s with the hits “Come Out and Play” Self Esteem ” and ” Pretty Fly (For a White Guy).”

In 2007 a blog post about The Offspring of the official website, frontman Dexter Holland described Lilja as “a big man with a pretty twisted sense of humour” who was “dying to get in to medical school.

“In fact, he was so focused on getting into medical school that he doesn’t really even practice with us much,” Holland wrote, “that is part of the reason why he is not our drummer anymore!”
