A veteran officer of the New York Police Department, was found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound on Wednesday, becoming the ninth officer, as of this year, to commit suicide.
The 56-year-old officer, who worked for the department for more than 20 years of age, shot himself at his home in Laurelton, Queens, shortly after 6 a.m., according to police.

The officer was rushed to Long Island Jewish Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
His death came just a day after an officer in nearby Yonkers self to be killed.
For the NYPD, said: “We are sad to announce that the NYPD has suffered from a tragedy of the loss of one of our officers to commit suicide.” The police have also urged the police to seek help for mental illness or depression.
“Anyone who is struggling, know that there is support available,” the NYPD tweeted. “On the back of each of these sources are people who care about your well-being.”
In the early hours of Tuesday morning, an off-duty officer, who have been on the job for seven years with the Yonkers Police department committed suicide in his home. Yonkers is a city of 200,000 inhabitants, which is in Westchester County, just north of New York City.
Over 47,000 people have been reported to occur in the united states in 2017, and 14 per 100,000 people — the highest rate in at least a half-century.

In 2018, with at least 159 officers died by suicide, and 9 percent more than the total number of officers killed in the line of duty, according to the Blue H. E. L. P., a non-profit organization run by active and retired police officers.
The City of New York, is one of the highest rates of the year suicide rate among major U.S. cities, with 10 senior officers, reported the death on Jan. 1, 2019 at the latest.
