CHICAGO – Authorities say an off-duty Chicago police sergeant shot and injured a person as someone in a car opened fire on the sergeant and his companions on the city’s northwest side.
The police said the sergeant was walking with friends Sunday night in the Albany Park neighborhood when a group of people in a vehicle initiated a verbal confrontation. Police say someone in the vehicle fired shots, asks the sergeant to draw his gun and shoot back.
The vehicle flew away. The police says a person in the vehicle, identified as a man, was shot in the head and taken to a hospital. Investigators have recovered a weapon.
Neither the sergeant and his companions were wounded.
The Independent Police Review Authority are investigating. The sergeant will be on administrative duties during the shooting investigation.
