Nowhere is it written that the single of the year on the album of the year. But now, it is nevertheless the case. Stephen Bruner, aka Thundercat, was Drunk two of his musical heroes prepare to engage for this timeless hybrid of pop, rock and soul. Kenny Loggins and Michael McDonald, both beard zestigers, renewed the band that they’re late ’70, early ’80 plotted with classics like What A Fool Believes (The Doobie Brothers) and This Is It (a solosingle of Loggins). “My happiness could not be told Bruner this year at Knack Focus. ‘For decades, had the two no longer worked together, and now they stood with me in the studio, put together a song to write!’. Our favorite Dutch translation of ‘to quarrel’: arguing. ‘With you, half the battle Is proving that we’re at war, / I would give my life just for the privilege to ignore’, sing Moses Sumney with his distinctive, fragile falset. On the title track of his third album as Father John Misty dissects Josh Tillman at the piano in a masterly way the naked ape, and all his errors. Symphonic rock with two feet on the ground: ‘Just random matter suspended in the dark / I hate to say it, but each other’s all we got’.

8. Shabazz Palaces – Shine A Light

The strijkerssample is, they took in Dee Dee Sharpe I Really Love You, a hit of 1965, the stream ofconsciousness-flow – ‘She said I’m too deep, then she fell asleep / How that llama repeat sound hella sweet’ – slips of the tongue of Ishmael ‘Digitable Planets’ Butler. Space age-rap high-John Barry-the content.
