An emotionally disturbed man was on Friday arrested after he waved a stick to a sword of the Empire State Building on the 79th floor of the observation deck, said the police.
The authorities said they were called to the landmark tower at around 3:40 a.m. after a 35-year-old man took the sword and put it to his chest.
NYPD chief of Department Terence A. Monahan tweeted a video of the incident and the officers’ response.
“Our men and women in blue, be prepared for any situation. When an emotionally disturbed man walked up to the Empire State Building, and possession of a cane sword today, to the NYPD, police responded swiftly to ensure that people are safe and secure. Our highly-trained staff resulted in a safe outcome for everyone,” he said. “Well done!”

The man was taken into custody and taken to the Bellevue Hospital.
No one was injured and no charges have been filed yet, police said.

The man threatened to kill himself, sources told the New York Post.
“I can just see him here and there … kind of like a sleeping,” the witness of Paul Allen, said. “When I was in the queue, he stood up and placed the sword on his chest and began to cry.”
