Arjen Fortune, known for his daily television columns for the NRC handelsblad, a biography about poet Gerrit Kouwenaar. Querido makes Wednesday announced that the work in 2023 should appear, on the occasion of Kouwenaars hundredth birthday.
Fortune calls it “a great honor” to write this book about Kouwenaar. “A poet who me for years very to the heart. With his desire to after the war, a new poetry to create, has he the literature is permanently changed. In the course of his life he has countless readers a new look at the world – I immerse me with love in his life story.”
Kouwenaar released his first book of poetry Early next door in 1941. In addition, he published during the Second world War in various illegal newspapers, for which he ended up in prison. Later he joined the Fifties, a dichtersgroep where also Hugo Claus, part of made. In the nineties, it was his poetry more personal and he was popular with a large audience.
In total wrote Kouwenaar 25 books of poetry and five novels. He received there under the P. C. Hooftprijs (1970), the Dutch Literature Prize (1989) and the VSB poetry prize for. The poet died in 2014 at age 91.
