NPO invests in online and on-demand offerings

The NPO is heavily investing more in online and on-demand programs. That was announced Monday at the seizoenspresentatie.

“We put substantially over the coming years in on on-demand and online,” said NPO president Shula Rijxman. “The budget for this is three times as high. We want to be where our viewers and listeners.”

For NPO Start (formerly NPO Missed) are more short documentaries and experimental series developed. “We will also make additional investments in original English topdrama of international allure,” says Rijxman.

In the coming season are several new online initiatives, such as the new middagmagazine for young people, called Club HUB. That is to follow through, NPO 101TV and YouTube. “We want to offer a lot more on NPO Start”, says Rijxman. “Bingewatching, previews. That is what the public expects.”

Further is more used to “all generations,” said NPO director French Small. “That’s why you see a lot of new faces on NPO 1, and we cut topics for young and old.”

New faces

The new faces are, among others, Sophie Hilbrand, Özcan Akyol, Marlin van Weerdenburg, the guys from Streetlab and Ilse de Lange. Hilbrand makes a program about sexuality in Hotel Sophie (BNNVARA), Van Weerdenburg and Daan, Tim, Jasper and Stijn van Streetlab help a new relationship in Hotel Romance (KRO-NCRV) and DeLange invites well-known artists in Nashville in Ilse’s Porch (AVROTROS).

Before, it was already known that The World Runs By six months per year. On the interpretation and presentation of a talk show for the rest of the year, the next time conversations take place. According to Rijxman there is “space for new talent on the cusp”. “Space for a whole new generation of makers. What the presenter: like a presenter this time.”

Drama and satire

On NPO 3 and more themes for young adults and for children there is the new satirical ochtendrubriek the Boterhamshow and an extra long NOS Jeugdjournaal. For NPO 2, Leo Blokhuis looking for our calvinist national character in Behind the Dikes (KRO-NCRV) and, Jelle Brandt Corstius, a look into the future with Robo sapiens(VPRO). Ruben Terlou goes Through the Heart of China (VPRO).

English drama and satire, there is also plenty, like Penoza V (KRO-NCRV),Voetbalmaffia (KRO-NCRV), Van God Los (BNNVARA), Sundays Well (VPRO) and Snipers (BNNVARA). Danny Ghosen examine with Danny Demonstrates (NTR) radical protest movements and Hunted (AVROTROS) comes with a second season.
