North Carolina veteran mistakenly declared dead

FAYETTEVILLE, N. C. Federal officials have discovered that there is a North Carolina veteran is not dead yet.

The Fayetteville Observer reported that 81-year-old Charles Hotel of Fayetteville was surprised to learn that he was pronounced dead by the Veterans Affairs Department over the past month.

Hotel the woman realized that something was wrong when a monthly disability payment is not deposited into their account. They learned a death certificate for a Charles Hotel, was submitted in January.

Hotel spent 12 years in the Army, serving with the 82nd Airborne Division and the 5th Special Forces Group in Fort Bragg.

A spokeswoman of the US. Rep. Richard Hudson’s office said Tuesday the VA has said that the error was corrected.

A VA spokesman said the department has an accuracy of 99.8 percent in stopping payments to those who die.
