North Carolina receives shocking $100 million on the water bill

HILLSBOROUGH, N. C. – The water bill was not so bad, but the service was eye-catching.

The News & Observer of Raleigh reports that Kieran Healy of Orange County in central North Carolina received a water bill for $ 189.92. The service charge was a dollar shy of $100 million.

Healy said he asked for Orange Water and Sewer Authority on Twitter on Wednesday if he could make payments.

Healy posted later Wednesday, the utility assured him that his bill was wrong.

In all fairness to @owasa1, but they responded to my e-mail and assured me that I do not in fact owe them a hundred million dollars.

The utilities Stephen Winters said an outside company will send reminder e-mails to customers for their account is set up. Winters said an error made it appear Healy faced with a huge bill.

Winters said that he does not know how many customers e-mails with incorrect service costs, but the company is sending apology messages.
