WINSTON-SALEM, N. C. – Authorities say a North Carolina police officer has shot and killed a passenger after a traffic stop led to a physical fight.
A Winston-Salem Police news release said Officer D. E. McGuire was patrolling in the late afternoon of Friday, when he stopped a car containing two men and a woman.
Police say the 60-year-old passenger Edward Of McCrae was in the back seat and began making suspicious movements.
McGuire told McCrae to stop with the reach of the hidden areas of the vehicle, but McCrae continued, according to the press release.
The authorities say that the officer physically struggled with McCrae, after he was removed from the vehicle, the officer saw a gun. McGuire shot and killed the man when he refused orders not to reach for the gun, according to the release. McGuire and McCrae of the race not disclosed promptly.
