Nobel laureate and dissident Liu Xiaobo (61) died

Nobel prize winner Liu Xiaobo, which, since 2009, was imprisoned, at the age of 61 passed away. Liu was at the end of June of the prison to a hospital. He was still guarded.

The European Union and the United States had last week shared their concerns against China over the medical treatment of Liu. According to the EU and the US had to Liu the opportunity to go overseas to get help.

He was treated for an advanced form of liver cancer.

Liu was in 2009 sentenced to eleven years ‘ imprisonment for “incitement to overthrow the state”. Liu was in 2008 one of the authors of a petition calling for political reform in China. He was also involved in the student protests on the Square of Heavenly Peace in 1989.

House arrest

He received in 2010 the Nobel Peace prize, but was already fixed. His wife since 2010 under house arrest, although it is nowhere officially condemned for them.
