Nina Simone and Sly Stone to get Lifetime Achievement Award

Among others, Nina Simone and Sly Stone receives a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Recording Academy, the organization behind the Grammy’s.

The oeuvreprijzen are part of the Grammy’s, this year on February 12, will be presented. The are the most important awards in the ‘Special Merit’ category. That segment of the awards ceremony is unlike the regular Grammy’s, no recognition for achievements in the past year, but for earnings over a longer period of time.

“The recipients of the Special Merit Awards this year are a prestigious group of diverse and influential musicians who have contributed to the most emblematic images in the history of music”, says the chairman of the muziekacademy in a statement.

Sly Stone is known primarily as frontman of the funkrockband Sly & The Family Stone. The in 2003 deceased singer Nina Simone took in the half-century in which she was active for more than forty albums. She is back in the media with two recent biopics, including the oscar-nominated What Happened, Miss Simone.

Other artists that the Lifetime Achievement Award for his Ahmad Jamal, The Velvet Underground, Shirley Caesar, Charley Pride and Jimmie Rodgers.
