Nicolás Frutos looks for the first time in its turbulent passage as beloftencoach and T1 ad interim in Anderlecht.
The ex-striker is currently as sports manager of Olimpia in Paraguay. How he looks back on his passage as a trainer at RSC Anderlecht? “I have something intense to be polite, but it was the finest period since I was eight years ago, stopped am as a player, surprised Nicolás Frutos.
The Argentine was given after the departure of René Weiler eventually four matches to a contract extension as T1 to earn. “I knew from day one that after four matches would come to an end to my mission in Anderlecht. I had to try as much as possible to win and that to me is successful. And: we have the clásico against Standard won. The team in the play-offs, the best core in Belgium turned out to have. That match was on an emotional level pretty tough. I am a latino, hey.
“But most of all: I knew that my job in it and that for a while I would stay away from Anderlecht. The board had already decided that they for a other trainer would go. And I can Anderlecht in a certain sense, understand…
“Anderlecht has Hein adopted in the assumption that he is still champion. Hein is the Belgian coach with the best reputation. Who am I to the directors to break down?
“I can only judge my own choices. I have, for example, in september, the choice was made to have a team from first class to reject, although I knew I was barely four matches of Anderlecht would be coaching. However, I do not regret. The board has asked me to stay, Hein Vanhaezebrouck wanted to hold me. I have Hein said the same thing as Herman Van leuven luc van wassenhoven. If I stay, then I want to be one hundred percent focused on Anderlecht. But that I could not muster, my head was elsewhere.’
“Despite all the difficulties, I have not badly done, Frutos. “The matches followed one another so quickly that I hardly had the time to bring everything to the last detail to prepare for. I gave up on Tuesday, my first training, on Wednesday, there was the bekermatch against Westerlo, Saturday, we had to Waasland-Beveren, Wednesday came to Celtic on a visit and on Sunday there was the Standard. You know what I could do? Individual conversations – I remember that a lot of players bloednerveus were for the match against Celtic – the motivation up to tighten and the players are top fit at the kick-off. I should say that it succeeded. We have Standard, not coincidentally, in the last minutes of a knock after three matches in eight days.”
When will we see him back in Belgium? Frutos: “I’m not in a hurry. It is the outside world that makes them that I’m eagerly. I have bought a house in Waterloo, I am now together with a Belgian woman and soon I will become a first-time father of a son. We are planning to be in Belgium to give birth to it because we are child of Belgian nationality. After that we return to Paraguay.
“But I think I’m at the latest in 2021 again in Belgium to the sta and then it is a matter of time before I have to go to Anderlecht return. I knew that one day I trainer of Anderlecht, and I’m sure one day I again trainer of Anderlecht. And believe me: you will be a better version of Frutos.’
