A New York man who threatened to assault and murder Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., in the last year, was sentenced to one year and one day in prison, prosecutors announced Tuesday.

Patrick W. Carlineo, Jr, 56, of Addison, NY, was sentenced Friday after pleading guilty in November, a U.S. official and a convicted felon in possession of firearms, threatening to assault and murder.

Prosecutors said Carlineo named Omar s office on March 21, 2019 12:20 p.m., A member of the Omar staff answered the call.

During the conversation Carlineo, allegedly asked the employee, whether or not Omar is working for the Muslim brotherhood.

“Why would you work for you, it is a [expletive] terrorist. Someone should put a bullet in your skull. Back in the day, our ancestors put a bullet in your [expletive] would have,” the employees back Carlineo established as a matter of course. “I put a bullet in your [expletive] will the skull.”

Omar ‘ s office referred the call to the United States Capitol Police, threat assessment section, began an investigation in coordination with the FBI.

During his trial, Omar demanded, publicly, that a Federal show judge have mercy on him.

“The answer to hatred is not more hatred, it is compassion,” Omar wrote in a letter to the chief U.S. district judge Frank P. Geraci, Jr, “the punishment of the defendant with a long prison sentence or a severe financial fine would not rehabilitate him. It would not repair the damage he has caused. It would be only his anger and resentment increase.”

Carlineo 1998 Criminal mischief, was sentenced in the Second degree in Steuben County Court. His conviction prohibited him from legally in possession of a firearm. Prosecutors said Carlineo was in possession of a loaded .45-caliber pistol, three rifles, two shotguns and hundreds of rounds of ammunition in his apartment in the past year.

Prosecutors said Calineo made the threatening call to retaliation against Omar, because he believed that she supports Hamas and the Muslim brotherhood, and that their election to Congress was illegitimate.
