New York is investing five million dollars in female theatre – and filmmakers
New York City is a five million dollar (4.5 million euro) to invest in a fund for female theatre – and filmmakers. This should be the equality in front of and behind the camera, in film and television and on the stage promoting.
This writes The New York Times Thursday. New York City is the first city in the country that have a program set up to female theatre – and filmmakers to help.
“We don’t see as many women at the top of their field as men,” says Julie Menin, head of the office for Media and Entertainment in New York City.
The five million dollars is available for women who create projects for or about women. The money also goes to the directors for their stories to pitch to and contacts with other investors. “Research shows that financing is a major obstacle for female filmmakers,” said Menin.
