The New York city police officer who died in a “tragic accident” at the weekend, crashed his SUV after accidentally shooting himself in the leg, investigators revealed on Monday.

The officer, Manuel Ortiz, of the Rochester Police Department, was on his way to work, on a Saturday night, when his personal Smith and Wesson M&P 9mm pistol, or any other way to discharge it into the vehicle, hitting a main artery, as well as Monroe County Sheriff Todd Baxter said.
