New treatment breast cancer conditional in the basic package health insurance
A new treatment for hereditary breast cancer from January 1, reimbursed from the basic package of the health insurance.
Because it is an experimental treatment, late minister Edith Schippers (public Health) the treatment conditionally to the basic package.
It comes to the treatment of patients with so-called BRCA1-like, stage III hereditary breast cancer. Hereby, the patient is treated with high dose chemotherapy and stem cell transplant.
The fee applies for the duration of six years and applies for patients with BRCA1-like breast cancer from 18 to 65 years. There is a budget of 4.4 million euros.
Conditional admission is only since 2012. Since then, it is fifteen times that happened. Patients get access to promising treatments and this creates insight into the effectiveness and costs of care. After the end of the period, the decision will be made whether treatment is definitively admitted.
