Despite the fact that mothers across the country are perfectly in order, naming all of their children Jackson or Sophia (or a variant thereof), a new mother said that a friend is cutting her out of her life after she named her baby boy the same “common” as the name of the friend of the son.

The woman who shared her story about parenting blog Mumsnet.com, claims that they even reached out to her friend before the baby was born, to ask for her blessing for the use of her preferred name, that they do not make public.

“The name meant a lot to my DH (darling husband) and we liked it more than the other names, so I decided to ask my friend whether it was OK to use,” wrote the mother, who goes by the username Mamatobe83.

“I messaged her and she said that she didn’t mind and understood that finding names is difficult. So the name of our son, and we are very happy with the name and it fits him well,” she added, before explaining that her friend quickly removed her from social media and stopped to speak to her at all. Mamatobe83 also says she found out her friend has told a mutual acquaintance she feels hurt.

“She has not spoken to me directly about this and I feel really offended that they removed me and, of course, can not bear to look into one of the [social media] photos of our baby that shares the same name as her son.”

Reactions soon poured in from Mumsnet users, the vast majority of who agreed that the woman’s boyfriend was being unreasonable.

“Seriously, the woman sounds crazy,” a user wrote. “Move on, situations like this are often a gift, because we are the true character of the people.”

“She is crazy. Names do not belong to anyone as the only owner, and you’d asked her, and she had said OK! She has nothing to feel pain about,” another responded.

A Mumsnet user is also prompted as to what the name is, saying: “If Ignatius or Fox or something also unusual, I could see why she was a bit put out… If it’s a top 50 name as George or Noah etc then she is extremely unreasonable.”

Mamatobe83 confirmed that the name was “pretty general” and “not unusual.”

A user, however, appeared to side with the friend.

“I would be annoyed also,” wrote the commenter. “I know the general consensus on [Mumsnet] is that no one is in possession of a name, but it can take months to lovingly choose a name for your [child], so it is annoying if a friend decides to copy. “

Eventually, however, Mamatobe83 decided she didn’t need to put up with her boyfriend drama over the baby name.

“Thank you for your opinions on this. I feel like we’re better off without her, and that they are unreasonable,” she wrote. “I’m not sure that I would have done something else.”
