The MacBook is probably at least a big change in 2018. You need to wait? Read more.
The laptop seen in airports and coffee shops all over the world is due for a major internal upgrade. Large enough that you want to hold off if you are itching to upgrade.
Almost all Intel processor and a 13-inch laptops today on two processor cores. But Intel is moving the laptop world to energy-efficient quad-core. That is great because it means that your laptop is suddenly a lot faster, while the battery life remains the same or even improves.

“Certainly, we see a large improvement of the performance there,” Lisa Gade, Editor-in-chief of MobileTechReview, told Fox News. If Apple adopted Intel’s 8th Generation quad-core processor in the 13-inch MacBook Pro line, the biggest leap in the performance, it would be for the low-end of the 13-inch MacBook pro’s, ” she said.
When Gade did performance testing on the Dell-displays-2017 XPS 13 laptop with Intel’s new quad-core chip they saw improvement of the performance of around 40 percent for some operations. That is the nature of the speed jump, you don’t need the benchmark tests.
I certainly see in the day-to-day use. I use both a late-2017 Dell XPS 13 and the end of 2017 Hewlett-Packard Spectre 13 in which the Intel quad-core processor and everything is smoother without any hit life of the battery in comparison with dual core.

The only question is when Apple would go. Apple is notoriously conservative on quickly to new silicon. “Hopefully, for the Windows crowd has updated to the 9th gen,” Gade said, referring to the next generation of Intel processors is likely to be due at the end of this year or next year.
The 15-inch MacBook Pro
The 15-inch MacBook Pro can also be major internal improvements.
This can manifest itself in two ways. A 15-inch MacBook Pro sports the newly released Intel quad-core processor and an AMD graphics processor, integrated in the same chip package. Both Dell and HP are coming out later this year, with thin-and-light 15-inch laptops, with this new silicone.

The other – more speculative – is the possibility of a 15-inch MacBook Pro packing Intel’s latest six-core processor. The convert of the six cores in a laptop from a top device maker would be a first.
“I am sure that power users would like to see an 8th gen 6-core CPU (when available later this year). Who knows, maybe Apple will offer,” Gade said.
The timing of a MacBook refresh could happen in the spring or summer.
