HONOLULU – President Donald Trump, has been appointed Vice Adm. John Aquilino as the new AMERICAN Pacific Fleet commander.
Aquilino currently commands the U.S. 5th Fleet from Bahrain.
The U.S. Senate votes on the nomination, which was announced Friday.
Two japanese Fleet, the ships were involved in separate collisions in the vicinity of Japan and Singapore last year killed 17 sailors. The Navy fired several top leaders, including the commander of the 7th Fleet.
The current Pacific Fleet commander, Adm. Scott Swift, announced in September he would retire after he learned he would not be promoted to lead all U.S. troops in the region, the U.S. Pacific Command.
The Pacific Fleet is based in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. The ships operated from the U.S. west coast, Hawaii, Guam and Asia.
