The opening of the new airport of Berlin is again delayed. The Berlin Brandenburg Airport was originally due to open in 2011, but additional costs, planningsfouten and construction defects led to repeated postponement.
Officially the deadline is still the end of 2017, but a source reports to the German press agency DPA that this is no longer feasible. The board of directors is aiming for now in the spring of 2018. It would go to the fifth postponement of the opening. A spokesman of the airport responds that in January, an exact date will be announced.
For Germany’s largest airline, Lufthansa, is a start in the winter of 2017 “inconvenient”. 2018 would be “more realistic”. Observers and politicians had already guessed earlier that the opening is re-deferral would increase. The chairman of the commission-Traffic in the Bundestag Martin Burkert (SPD) visited in October the yard and kept an opening at the end of 2017, more possible. The Berlin mayor Mcihael Müller, and chairman of the board of directors of the new airport, called at the beginning of december 2017 an “ambitious goal”
Price tag of the new airport is 5.4 billion euros. They will in addition to the existing Schönefeld airport, southeast of the German capital, operate. The smaller Tile in the northwest, close the doors. Berlin-Brandenburg is the third largest airport of Germany.
There is, meanwhile, fear that the new airport is too small. The new construction at Schönefeld would be 27 million passengers per year, but the plans, which are from the 90’s dating, did not take into account that Berlin, in 2016, 33 million luchtrzeizigers would count. In addition to the new terminal would be a new. To anyone arriving by plane to Berlin will still be able to continue to process, there are pleas to Tile to keep it open.
