Raw video: Trooper Adam Whitmarsh describes the scary incident in which a suspected impaired driver crashed into his cruiser on a Nevada highway.

Dashcam images showed a Nevada Highway Patrol trooper narrowly avoided being hit by a suspected impaired driver on Saturday in the Las Vegas Valley.

Adam Whitmarsh, the trooper, pulled over a black car on U.S. Highway 95 allegedly speeding when the incident occurred, the Las Vegas Review-Journal. In the images, Whitmarsh was heard, told the driver of the black car to “drive safely.”

As he walked back to his cruiser, he stopped and jumped out of the way of an oncoming car. A white SUV crashed into the rear of the vehicle of the police who were then on the back of the black car to the shoulder of the road and the wall. Debris was seen flying in the air at the moment of the impact.

The driver of the SUV, Benjamin Perri, 23, is jailed on charges of DUI, improper use of the belt, not to use, make, reckless driving, not yielding to an emergency vehicle and possession of a firearm while intoxicated,” the Las Vegas Review-Journal.

Whitmarsh suffered minor injuries as a result of the incident. He told KSNV: “he was just thinking survival mode” at the time of the incident.

“I responded so quickly,” he recalled. “I mean, it happened so quickly.”

The soldier told KSNV his father was killed by a drunk driver and the incident reminded him why he went in the enforcement of the law.

“I’m kind of hurt himself in the process of doing it. I’m here today, so that is the most important part, I think,” he said.

The Nevada Highway Patrol said Whitmarsh was “currently on light but will return to full duty.”
