The 44-year-old is playing the royal in a season three and four of the show, the first air next year, Variety reported.

Colman previously acclaimed actress Claire Foy, who played a younger version of the queen in the series’ first and second seasons, as a “genius”.

“I was completely in his grip to look at,” Colman said in a statement. ‘A good ‘one more’ feeling. I think Claire Foy is an absolute genius. She’s an incredibly hard act to follow. Basically I’m going to rewatch every episode and copy her!”

Colman is not the only new face added to the cast actor Tobias Menzies, who played Edmure Tully on HBO’s “Game of Thrones,” will star as Elizabeth II’s husband, Prince Philip.

“Doctor Who” star Matt Smith, 35, had played a younger Prince Philip in seasons one and two.
