Netflix sued by ‘patenttrol’ to download
Netflix and several other internetddiensten in the US have been sued by a company that claims a patent on the download function, that Netflix recently added to its apps.
That reports Ars Technica on the basis of rechtbankdocumenten. The company Blackbird Technologies complained except Netflix also music site Soundcloud, video site Vimeo, filmstreamingdienst Mubi and some other companies.
They offer their users the ability to streams to download, for offline can be viewed.
Blackbird has a patent on the downloading of data, and then automatically on a CD-R disk. Due to the broad wordings of the patent may more widely applicable. According to Ars Technica, different companies have already a settlement to lawsuits from Blackbird to avert.
The company develops any products or services, but deserves to patentlicenties and lawsuits. Critics call such companies ‘patenttrollen’ and say that they are innovation by the legal trouble for companies that own products.
Netflix and the other accused companies have not commented on the case.
