Netflix may continue to compete for Oscars

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has in its new regulations, no new restrictions for streaming services added. Platforms like Netflix and Amazon may, therefore, also next year participate again at the Oscaruitreiking. That report various media Wednesday, including NME.

To be able to compete for the Oscars, a film, at least one week continuously in a cinema in Los Angeles screened. Such performances are regularly scheduled in the run-up to the Oscaruitreiking. Requirements for a broader bioscoopdistributie before a movie somewhere else, not there.

The Cannes film Festival uses that line as well, which Netflix movie Roma last year could participate to the prestigious competition. The drama of Alfonso Cuarón won later the top prize at the Venice film Festival and received a ten Oscarnominaties. Of them, three were finally redeemed.

Critics, including Steven Spielberg, suggested that prices for such films belong at the Emmy’s. The Academy does not, however, which, for example, the new crime film by Martin Scorsese can join things. The Local, about the infamous disappearance of union leader Jimmy Hoffa, this year on Netflix appear. Important roles are reserved for, among others, Robert DeNiro and Al Pacino.
