Netflix: ‘Cannes is now less attractive for us’

France is the only country with such strict rules, responding to Ted Sarandos of Netflix on the Cannesrel.

Ted Sarandos, the chief content officer of Netflix, has responded to the brouhaha between his company and the Cannes film festival. The festival refuses from next year because the films in the official competition that no French theatrical release. That is a response to the Netflixfilms Okja and The Meyerowitz Stories that are only in American cinema’s true. In France, you may movies in addition, only streamed when they are three years ago in the cinema were to be seen.

When Variety Sarandos asked if Netflix still comes back to Cannes with films out of competition, he answered first, right away ‘no’, to which he added: “It would be less attractive, because it is our festival strategy worldwide would affect.’

He added that Netflix still welcome at the festivals of Venice and Toronto. “Movies should be judged on their artistic qualities, not on their commercial. I don’t want our filmmakers to be excluded if they have a choice in terms of distribution. France is the only place in the world that have such strict rules about releases.’
