Mark Harmon, the star of CBS’ ‘NCIS,’ shared the win of advice his father had given him.
While Mark Harmon is best known for his role as Leroy Jethro Gibbs on the CBS drama “NCIS” he had a long and illustrious career in show business. According to him, his success can be credited in large part to the advice of his father.
The star went for the cover of the issue of the People where he opened up about stardom, his marriage, and his more than 40-year career, which was kicked into overdrive after with the name of the second ever “Sexiest Man Alive” by the magazine in 1986. In the interview, the star opened up about how he’s navigated fame all those years.

“My father taught me, like it or not, don’t worry,” Harmon, 67, told People. “I come from working stock, and I’m proud of it. You have every day and just try hard. That is what I still wake up want to do: try my best.”
Harmon’s father is best known as the famous football broadcasting icon Tom Harmon, who played in college before joining the NFL for two seasons. Mark followed his father’s footsteps, eventually becoming a starting quarterback for UCLA. Hard work was not only an off-handed piece of advice that the star applied to the show business. It was a way of life that his father definitely taught him and his two sisters.
“Work your a– off, and do not let the effort show,” he says of his dad’s advice. “Also: Treat people the same, not on the basis of who they are or what they are. They show common kindness. Not be colored by their fame or profession. I don’t get all excited by people blowing smoke in my a–. You have to be honest.”

Now that Mark is an older man who has found success in his own right, he is passing the torch of advice to another generation. He opened up to People about his advice for a long marriage.
As fans may know, Harmon is married to “Mork & Mindy” star Pam Dwaber 31 years. According to him, is the secret of a lasting marriage is the end of the term.

“We were both in our thirties when we got married, so hopefully the stupid things that we did earlier,” he says. “That’s probably the closest I have what is most important.”
The couple share two sons, Sean, 30, and Ty, 26.
