National volleyball team qualify for the european CHAMPIONSHIP by winning on Turkey
The Dutch volleyball players may next year to participate in the European championship in Poland. The team of coach Gido Vermeulen won Sunday’s decisive qualifier against Turkey.
In the Centre in Koog aan de Zaan, with 1100 people was full, it was 3-1 against Turkey, on the world ranking one place lower state (23rd to 24th): 19-25, 25-22, 26-24 and 25-18.
The netherlands ended by the victory as first in group E. Last weekend won the national volleyball team in Izmir in the first three matches: 3-0 against belarus, 3-2 against Turkey and 3-1 against Austria.
This weekend it defeated the Orange, the three countries again: 3-0 against Austria, 3-2 against belarus and on Sunday 3-1 against Turkey.
At the previous european CHAMPIONSHIPS in 2015, ended the Netherlands as the ninth. In Poland wants Orange to do better. “We have a good mix of young and old. With this group we can do in a number of years. That is important in volleyball, otherwise you have no defence building,” said Vermeulen after the end against the NIS.
The coach is looking forward to the european CHAMPIONSHIPS, but also to the qualification for the world championships. “We are almost twenty years of not been. That is our next goal, and also want the elderly people in the group are going to help us.”
The Dutch volleybalmannen did in 2002 for the last time at the world CHAMPIONSHIPS.
