National coach Leekens will leave for Algeria after switching off at the Africa Cup of
Georges Leekens is no longer the coach of Algeria. The Belgian decided Tuesday to steps after the shutdown of the North African country a day earlier at the Africa Cup in Gabon.
“In the interest of everyone, I choose to stop”, said the 67-year-old Leekens, who only three months coach. Shortly before he in October, was appointed, he was dismissed at Lokeren.
Leekens was with Algeria among the favourites for the overall victory at the Africa Cup, but the team came through the group stage. In group B took the ‘desert foxes’ only two points. Monday was with 2-2 equal played against group winners Senegal.
Leekens had Algeria in 2003, even though under his wing, but he left when soon because privéredenen.
