NASA has unveiled its plans to send a new lunar rover, VIPER, on the surface of the Moon.

“The VIPER is going to rove on the south pole of the moon, and the rate in which the water ice,” said NASA Administrator Jim Bridenstine during an extended speech at the International Astronautical Congress in Washington, D. C., on Friday.

The government’s space agency, observes that the Moon has a large reservoir of water ice, is an amount that could reach millions of tons. The water will be used to sustain a human presence on the lunar surface.

“The Water is to ice, air to breathe, water to drink,” Bridenstine said, adding that the hydrogen in the water ice can also be used for rocket fuel. “We’re going to make use of the resources of the Moon to live and work for a long period of time.”

NASA’s plans to land the VIPER, which stands for the Volatiles to Examine Polar Exploration Rover on the Moon in December 2022. When you reach the surface of the moon, the golf-cart sized rover, will collect about 100 days of data roaming a few miles away. The VIPER’s instruments, including a 1-meter (3.28 feet) in drill hole will be used for the execution of the soil.

The date and the kick-off of the vehicle in which the mobile robot to the Moon, it will be provided through NASA’s Commercial Lunar Payload Services (CLPS) a contract for the supply of science, technology and cargoes, and in the vicinity of the Moon, the space agency said in a statement.

NASA’s Artemis-programme aims to support the country by U.s. astronauts, including the first woman on the Moon by 2024 and to build a sustainable human presence on Earth’s natural satellite.

The first mission capabilities, to bid for the 2024 games is going to be landing two astronauts on the Moon’s south pole. The astronauts living and working on the lander for a two-and-a-half days, according to the agency.

Speaking for the IAC, Bridenstine should also be noted that, at the same time, the two astronauts on to the moon, it may well be a woman. “This is an important point to make,” he added.

NASA has recently launched a “woman in the Moon” image to the Centre of the missions. “Artemis, the twin sister of Apollo and Goddess of the Moon and of the hunt, which includes all of our present efforts to facilitate the return of humans to the Moon and to prepare and propel us to Mars,” the space agency explains on its web site. “It’s a portrait of the Greek Goddess Artemis can be seen in the highlights and in the shadows of the waxing Moon to surface topography. Her features were abstract enough that any woman can see themselves in her.”

Earlier this year, NASA released details of the vision for the Artemis Lunar lander and the AMERICAN astronauts on the moon’s surface.

THE APOLLO 11 ANNIVERSARY THIS YEAR, PENCE IS PLEASED TO ANNOUNCE THAT WITH THE ORION CAPSULE FOR THE MANNED MOON MISSIONS AND IS NOW READY FOR DEBUT FLIGHT

In July, NASA said that it was looking at proposals from the industry for the development of an integrated human lunar landers, and the implementation of a manned flight demonstration at the lunar surface by 2024, according to an announcement on the Federal Business Opportunities web site.

Speaking at nasa’s Kennedy Space Center on the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 moon landing on July 20th, Vice-President Mike Pence also announced that the Orion capsule carrying American astronauts back to the Moon, is now complete.

In a document posted on the fbo web site, NASA stated that the astronauts will be flown in the Orion spacecraft to the ‘Gateway’ of the international space station, in orbit around the Moon. The Gateway is the ship that will be used to support the transfer of crew and supplies to the Lunar Lander.

After the Apollo 11 astronauts, Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin set foot on the Moon on 20 July 1969, in just 10 more men, all Americans, walked on the surface of the moon. The Apollo 17 Mission, Cmdr. Cernan became the last NASA astronaut to set foot on the Moon on Dec. 14, 1972.

Last week, NASA astronauts, Christina Koch, and Jessica Meir made history when she was finished, the first woman to space walk.
