A North Carolina woman has asked to have her parental rights revoked after she allegedly tried to poison her two young children with lighter fluid in their soft drinks.

Octavia Robinson, 34, of Fayetteville, was Monday arrested and accused of spiking her 6-year-old and 10-year-old sons’ cream soda ‘ s with lighter fluid. She is facing two counts each of distribution of food which is injurious to health or harmful material and misdemeanor child abuse, the Fayetteville Observer reported.

According to the police, one of the boys knocked on their neighbor’s door of the motel where they live, say the drink smelled funny. They called the police.

“As soon as your lap, hitting your face, it was that you have pain in your stomach,” Tracy Madison, Robinson’s neighbour, said CBS-17.

They said that the 6-year-old boy was taken to hospital after drinking some of the soda, but has released. It is unclear whether the 10-year-old boy drank from the poisoned drink.

The children were taken into the custody by the Cumberland County Department of Social Services.

District Attorney Billy West on Tuesday asked Robinson’s bail be increased from $30,000 to $100,000 to be due to psychological problems. Robinson said that they do not have the money.

“I don’t have the money,” Robinson said. “You know what I want to say? I’m going to sit.”

The mother then asked Judge Beth Keever at her parental rights terminated.

“I want my parental rights terminated,” Robinson said.

“We are not even close to decide that,” Keever responded.

Robinson started to yell and swear after West suggested she undergo a psychological evaluation.

“Mental health has played a joke,” Robinson said. “I’m done playing. I’m done with Fayetteville.”
