Almost a third (30,8 percent) of all people with a benefit (excluding AOW) receives mental health care. That is three times as much as workers, according to a study commissioned by the ministry of Social Affairs and Employment.

Municipalities, mental health care and benefit, UWV will collaborate to bring this percentage down.

It is mainly beneficiaries who are unable to work and people in the Sickness that make use of the mental health care (ggz) and/or medicinal use in the treatment of mental diseases. Nearly 17 percent receive help from mental health care, while 24 percent medication. It comes to figures from 2013.

In the first ten years of this century, expenditure for mental health care doubled. That is without the costs for medication. The research shows that benefit claimants for up 58.2 percent of the total cost of mental health care are responsible.

State secretary Jetta level of client (Social Affairs), proposes to 3.5 million euros available for the co-operation between agencies to improve. “Cooperation between municipalities, UWV, mental health and employers is crucial to people with a mental illness to work to guide. The money that I am now available set of regional cooperation to give an extra impulse.”

‘Work is to participate’

People with a mental illness find it very difficult to have a job. According to Jacobine Geel of GGZ, the Netherlands, work is very important for people with mental health problems. “Work is involved. It helps greatly in recovery from a mental illness.”

The study reveals that relatively few workers make use of the mental health service. It is going to be 9.6 percent. There is very little difference between self-employed workers or people in service. Students of eighteen years of age and older will receive 9.8 percent mental health care.
