After 63 people were shot in Chicago over the weekend, Illinois State Rep. La Shawn K. Ford says the community needs more resources to fight the violence.

CHICAGO – Chicago police say hundreds of additional agents have been deployed to the city in the areas where an explosion of armed violence in the weekend, at least 11 dead and about 70 wounded.

The police Supt. Eddie Johnson said on the Tuesday press conference that 400 extra police officers are already patrolling in areas on the West and south, where most of the shooting occurred. Another 200 will be added by the coming weekend.

Victims of this weekend, shots ranged in age from 11 to 63. One boy was fatally shot while riding a bicycle Sunday afternoon, and another shooting took place at a block party and a funeral.

To the increase of some of the officers have their regular shifts are extended, while other units will have their days off cancelled.
