The police in Montana and had to block off parts of the heart of the rocky mountain elk foundation on Wednesday, after shots were fired at a patrol car in the area, officials say.

The University of Montana Police department sent out an alert to students warning them not to travel into the city centre,” despite the fact that there is no immediate threat to the campus at this time, according to KTMF.

“Well the Police have blocked a section of the city of Missoula, in the vicinity of the police department, and the Mountain Line transfer station, after the shots were fired at a police car, driven by one officer,” the warning read.

No injuries were reported from the incident, and the details of the possible suspects have not been released.

A local government spokesman told KTMF is that the town hall is on lockdown as a result of an “active criminal.”
