Missouri principal apologizes about the dress code speech

OAKVILLE, Mo. – The principal of a suburb of St. Louis high school is apologizing after telling girls they should not have their breasts, belly, or rear-ends because of the diversion of boys.

KSDK-TV reports that Oakville High School Principal Janet Kellerman told parents at an open house Thursday that such an incident will “never happen again” and she was angry that she hurt a student or students.”

Kim Hanan-West said she was “shocked” and that the comments of the sent message, that “the boys are somehow not in control of their own thoughts, feelings and emotions and that is the responsibility of the young women.”

The Newspaper the School District confirms that while speaking to ninth graders, Kellerman also told the boys that they must not wear “wife-beater” tank tops. A district spokeswoman says the comments were inappropriate. Multiple complaints were submitted.
