An 18-year-old suspect was arrested Wednesday in the shooting death of a Missouri woman who was shot in front of her three children during an attempted carjacking, police say.

The suspect, who is not identified by the St. Louis County police and has yet to be prosecuted, the left Porsha Owens, 28, dying in the hands of her 8-year-old child on Monday morning after the recording of her while she tried to get her children to day care, her mother said.

“I’m angry, disbelief, I am hurt,” the mother, Yvette, the King, told Fox 2 Now. “I’m really having a hard time with this. As I said, I’m more so in disbelief that my daughter is gone. It is like a dream and I’m going to wake up. They took my daughter.”

King said an unknown attacker approached Owens outside her home in St. Louis County and demanded that she hand over her car keys and money. After she refused, the suspect opened fire, King added, noting that Owens’ 8-year-old son got help and kept on her until an ambulance arrived. Owens was later pronounced dead at a hospital.

The police also said that the shooter walked with difficulty, attempt to start the vehicle, and Owens’ children, ranging in age from 3 to 8, were uninjured, The Associated Press reported.

Owens, who worked as a school safety officer at Riverview Gardens School District, was a “precious” members of the staff, the district said.

“We are devastated to learn of the tragic loss of District Safety Officer Porsha Owens,” he said in a statement. “Officer Owens was a beloved member of the Riverview Gardens School District family, who have worked diligently to build positive relationships with RGSD scientists, teachers, and administrators.”

The king is now vowing to increase Owens’ children.

“As a mother, I always told her, ‘Mom, do not increase women, I set soldiers, so even though they died in that way, they still died as a soldier,” she told Fox 2 Now.

Funeral arrangements for Owens will be held on Wednesday, and a GoFundMe has been set for the increase of the donations for the children.
