A Milwaukee police officer was shot and killed Wednesday, and a suspect has been arrested, local media reported, citing authorities.

A Milwaukee police officer was shot and killed Wednesday, and a suspect has been arrested, local media reported, citing authorities.

The incident occurred as the officers were searching for a wanted person, Fox 6 Now reported. Shots rang out after officers came in contact with the suspect, where “one of our members was injured,” Chief Alfonso Morales said.

“I am saddened to inform you that the officer injured has not today,” Morales said. “This is a difficult time for us. He was loved by the department and a friend of mine.” Morales added that the deceased official had been with the department 17 years.

The defendant wanted a gun and drug offenses, Morales said.

Authorities located a weapon, Fox 6 reported. Morales said: “the suspect was not shot” during the meeting and the survey are described as being “very fluid.”

Milwaukee Police earlier tweeted that officers were at the scene of a critical incident where an officer was shot,” adding that a “suspect is in custody.”

The shooting comes almost two months after the death of Milwaukee Officer Charles Irvine Jr., who was killed after the patrol car he was in crashed while in pursuit of a reckless driver.
